the end of the alphabet

the end of the alphabet by cs richardson

this book - novella, really, at 119 pages - is a lovely love story of two middle aged people in a happy marriage, then the husband Ambrose Zephyr is told by the doctor that he has one month to live, which could be cliched but richardson handles it with grace and design (he's a book designer by trade) by turning it into a journey through the alphabet of cities. he writes simply but elegantly, playing with the idea of the alphabet throughout.

i'd recommend this as an afternoon read when you're in the mood for a touching story by a first-time author who understands how to play with language.
