it begins again...

summer camp, people...SUMMER CAMP

the fact that it's uppercase should prove to you the seriousness of the situation ;-)

now i'm sure when you were a kid and went to summer day camp, you have pleasant memories or friendships and fun and playing outside and maybe even learning something (i never went, but that's not the point)...but for adults that work in summer camp, it's a rough ten weeks of containing a bunch of crazies who would prefer to be home or with their friends on their block, instead of at the community center all day. i have 10-15 kids in my computer lab at a time, who would rather play games, blast booty-shaking music videos and chat on myspace than do the project i have planned for them that day. usually i end up losing it around week five and need to take a long weekend.

this first week has gone rather well so far...the youngest kids (5 & 6 yr olds) are excited about just being on a computer...the eldest (10-12 yr olds) are a little mad they can't go on youtube, but we have an agreement that if they can show me they can be responsible with their internet usage, i'll consider lifting the ban. but still no booty-shaking videos, which at some point i'll give them a dissertation on why they shouldn't watch those because they are demeaning to women...as soon as i figure out how to explain to 10 yr olds what "demeaning to women" means.

current mood: a bit headachey
current noise: the beautiful quiet of my room after the groups have left
