"jack's book: an oral biography of jack kerouac" by barry gifford and lawrence lee
got this one from the library, and it's not recent, but oh-so-good. interviews with his friends, both literary and childhood. sometimes contradictory, sometimes funny, sometimes so beautifully sad. a good insight into a man who was a great non-academic writer and couldn't handle the fame that hit him.
"Jack had tremendous areas of - i'm loath to call it ignorance, but they were. But that's what made him good. If he'd known how the world worked he never would have broken his heart over it." --john clellon holmes
current mood: dazed and confused
current noise: "morning dew" by the dead
