i was thinking last night how writing fiction is cool and all (if only because of all the characters and stories in my head need a way to get out), but i miss poetry - fussing over a single word, distilling everything down to a single line. so, as a balance to the over-wordiness of writing narratives, i'm going to focus on the art of haiku. i've been an admirer of the form for a long time, so studying it and mastering the sublimeness will hone my writing skills and honor my poetry background.

now i have two things to look forward to as a reward for finishing the novel...writing haiku and getting Guitar Hero III for the wii :-)
