if it, in fact, does exist ;-)
on a serious note, "French sociologist and philosopher Jean Baudrillard has died aged 77 at his home in Paris following a long illness."
if you don't know who he is, it's understandable unless you've read anything about post-modern theory. basically baudrillard "has developed theories based, not on power and knowledge, but around the notions of seduction, simulation, and, the term with which he is most associated, hyperreality." you can read more about him at wikipedia and check out his opinions on new technologies
it's funny (not ha-ha) that i picked up my copy of "introducing postmodernism" the other day - most likely because i was subconsciously looking for answers to the questions coming up during my writing process. now i've picked it up again for a good quote:

Intellectuals must stop legitimizing the notion that there is some "ultimate truth" behind appearances. Then, maybe, the masses will turn their backs on the media and public opinion management will collapse.digest that thought and then turn your back on mass media and the version of the world they want to swallow whole.
