from thanksgiving

this post was started at thanksgiving and i never got a chance to write it all down and post, so here goes....

we spent thanksgiving in boston, and in talking with the boy's cousin louis, i found out that the public trans up there (MBTA - known commonly as the T) has as many complaints about it as SEPTA does here. but the riders there have started to do something about it. they created the T Riders Union:
The T Riders Union (TRU), a core committee of ACE, organizes public transit riders to build a unified voice and movement for better public transportation in Greater Boston, Together, we develop and implement strategies to improve the quality of public transit. Our focus is on transit dependent communities – neighborhoods that are predominantly people of color and/or lower income, where riders are likely to not own cars and therefore depend on public transit to get to work, school, recreation, or shopping.
so, what don't we have something like that here in philly? i think people here would rather complain about something than actually get up and do something about it (which leads into another post i've been meaning to make). it's easier to complain. it's much harder to get people together to meet and discuss what should be done, to confront something corrupt and demand change. or maybe they're like me - think it's a great idea but don't know where to begin.

anyone else want to start a riders union? if you do, post it on your blog and maybe we can find someone who has their sh*t together enough to say "hey, let's have a meeting at this place and this date and time."

i'm lazy. and also i wouldn't know where to start. and i'm not ambitious enough to find out. that's what happens when you've lived with apathy for so long. it's hard to break the cycle.
