first the political...
so, the democrats are finally taking a stand (probably because mid-term elections are in a few months and they really need to get a "sexy" presidential candidate out there soon) and demanding a timetable for troops to be withdrawn from iraq. which i agree with in theory, but let's think about it for a second...
if the democrats get their way and the troops are brought home, then iraq, still in its infancy, will not be able to secure and defend itself against insurgents within the country and various factions and factors outside the country. now, i have sympathy for all the ordinary citizens who didn't ask for their country to be invaded, bombed, and then left to fend for themselves when the u.s. pulls out. so, we screw over all the innocents when we pull the troops, and when iraq goes down inflames and falls under another dictatorship, then the republicans can point to the democrats and say they are to blame because they demanded that the troops be pulled.
don't the democrats see that? maybe that's why hillary is opposing a set date...maybe she's one of the few to see the whole picture. and that's why it's a shame that she wouldn't be voted president. she gets it, but too many narrow-minded people find that intimidating.
