i've often thought about this but never wrote it down...
words mean absolutely nothing. honestly, take a look at any word that offends you...usually a curse word of some sort. it may have an etymology and a definition, but only your mind has the capacity to give it meaning, to give it power over your emotional reaction to said word. you, as an individual, have to regain your power over words and not let them control you. control words, use them to your advantage, but don't abuse or dominate others with that power. i think that's what makes a good writer...someone who understands the power of words (even innocuous or common ones), respects that power and wields it like a taoist warrior, with compassion and yielding strength. and i think great talkers (i'm specifically thinking of great mic workers in wrestling) understand that as well, even if they don't articulate it like i just did. if everyone understood that power, maybe we wouldn't need all the PC crap and alternative spellings of "misogynistic" words.
