Unba//anced

kid bloggin'

obviously, i enjoy blogging. i have two sites devoted to it and so many people use it to communicate with friends, to meet new people or just rant about whatever they're passionate about. i think it's the evolution of AOL/AIM, because you don't have to be online at the same time of the person you want to talk to. even though there's definitely room for more nefarious purposes (being malicious, hate mongering, sexual/child predation) blogging can be a way for those who can't normally reach out to people (homebound, marginalized, socially isolated/shunned) to find like-minded individuals.

so here's my conundrum: how do i get kids involved with blogging? there a bunch of different positive reason for them to blog (see http://www.rss-specifications.com/kids-blogging.htm), but i'm also full aware of the risks involved (see http://www.netsmartz.org/safety/risks.htm). this is what i've been pondering for a few weeks. anyone have any suggestions?

and as i typed this entry out, i realized there's no way for homebound/marginalized/socially isolated people to engage in this if they don't have a computer...and most of those people wouldn't have access to one. how do we go about solving that problem?
